PARADISE LOST - Drummer Jeff Singer Leaves The Band!!-South American Tour Cancelled!!
16 Aug 2008 - 16:41 by Michalis

Jeff Singer issued the following statement on the band's offcial site :

"Dear everyone,

I guess no one would have seen this coming but as of the end of August I will no longer be drumming for Paradise Lost. I have decided to hang up my sticks altogether. It is an incredibly hard decision to have had to make as drumming has been my life for as long as I can remember and through good and bad has been my living for nearly 20 years. It is going to be very difficult I am sure and after four and a half years I will miss Nick, Aaron, Steve, Greg (and Milly) very much but in my heart I know that it is the correct thing for me to do.

So why am I leaving, well, to be honest it is a difficult thing to explain in a few paragraphs, but here goes.

I am sure you are aware that the record industry is struggling and I for one have become increasingly disillusioned with the music business as a whole. I feel incredibly lucky to have travelled so much in my career. I have so many fantastic memories and have had a ton of priceless experiences. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and I wouldn't change anything. However to have survived in this business for so long has meant great sacrifice and I have had to move the goalposts over the years to help make things happen and try and survive through some pretty hard times. More and more is being taken away and it is getting harder and harder to make excuses for why I do this.

We toured so hard this past year, we were basically away for five out of six months and are still out as we speak. In past years I wouldn't be bothered but as a 37 year old man with a family now for me it has just been too tough. My sons are 1 and 3 and being away from them has just been too painful. I asked myself if I could see myself leaving them again for a three month stretch and the answer was no; I couldn't. I realised there was no point in having a family if I wasn't there and that is how it has to be. Sad as it is, losing my brother two years ago showed me that there is no point in having regrets or feeling that you should have said more or done more. Carpe Diem and all that.

Coincidentally whilst I was thinking about my future I confided in my best friend who ended up offering me a job which will provide me with a good career and future which for a 37 year old man with nothing but drumming behind him was an offer too good to pass up.

I appreciate the timing of my departure is terrible but September 1st was the start date for the job and I must go through with that.

I feel with In Requiem I have gone out on a high. It has been a fantastic two years recording and touring for the album and to tour America with Nightwish the way we did fulfilled a life long dream for me. Not a day goes by now without me thinking about that tour and it will always be with me until the day I die.

I thank everyone involved with Paradise Lost and I wish you heartfelt good luck for the future. I also thank all the great musicians I have played and toured with since 1986 and especially all the fans who have made it all worthwhile. I am sure everyone will understand and respect my decision.

Thank you

Jeffo"

Also the band announced the cancellation of the South Americal Tour, with the following announcement on their official site :

"It is with regret that we have to announce the cancellation of our South American tour, sincere apologies to all the fans and promoters involved but this decision follows the announcement of the departure of our drummer Jeff Singer. We are committed to doing the 20th anniversary 'Unholy Trinity' dates in Europe with a stand in drummer but it will be impossible to find and appoint a new drummer in time for the shows in South America . We hope to reschedule a South American tour next year."

IVANHOE And DESTINATION'S CALLING Sign To New Metal label SILVERWOLF PRODUCTIONS!
12 Aug 2008 - 11:12 by Nikos
By 2008, Ivanhoe have turned into substantially more than the "German answer to Dream Theater". This is how the band was hailed by many magazines in the 1990s.

Ivanhoe's sophisticated and tantalizing songwriting helps them create a unique universe of sound. After decades of making music together, Ivanhoe have dug to the depths of their souls to come up with fascinating and surprising musical moments and melodies, touching the heart of any real music enthusiast.

On their latest and greatest album so far, the six musicians have distilled all their musical influences into a diverse range of songs and styles - from remarkably straight to experimental crossover. Every Metalhead will find their pick in there, regardless of whether they favour the likes of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Queensryche or Dream Theater. Invaluable!

Ivanhoe is the ex band of Andy B. Franck (Brainstorm) . They were on tour with Nevermore and Iced Earth.

The four-man-combo founded in 1999 has recently been attributed to that in several reviews.

"Mastery of the Light", the first demo-record (produced by DESTINATION'S CALLING; recorded and mixed in their rehearsal room) was released in July 2001 and turned out to be a smash hit: Several fantastic reviews from all around the world underline the potential of the production and confirm: DESTINATION'S CALLING certainly has a future. After the record was out, DC put all effort in their live activities and with constant performing they won quite a lot of enthusiastic fans.

In September 2005 the band went to Munich to bring to life the new album "Invisible Walls" at the Dreamscape Studios.

"Invisible Walls" was recorded and mixed by Jan Vacik (Dreamscape) and mastered by Andy Horn (Red Room Studios; e.g. Edenbridge, Majesty, Bob Rock). The cover was designed by André Beckston from Sweden, who may be well known for his collaborations with Edguy, Michael Kiske and many more.

THE END RECORDS Staff Member To Release Book On History Of Progressive Metal!
12 Aug 2008 - 11:05 by Nikos
Bazillion Points Publishing has announced the first definitive book on the elusive world of progressive metal, written by esteemed metal crusader and prog manic and THE END RECORDS staff member Jeff Wagner. Scheduled for release in autumn 2009, the book will detail the common movements of pioneers like OPETH, WATCHTOWER, VOIVOD, ATHEIST, DREAM THEATER, PSYCHOTIC WALTZ, CELTIC FROST, SIGH, and FATES WARNING — metal bands who have gone against the tide of tradition and conservatism. Linked by a desire to push heavy metal forward, these varied bands with a couple hundred other black sheep form the hard-to-pin-down category of "progressive metal."

Beginning with the hugely influential mid-1970s efforts of Canadian band RUSH, Wagner's book explores the shared lineage of prog rock and metal. He unfurls the huge tapestry and examines the sounds and styles created during the genre's 40-year history, including: the "Big Three" — QUEENSRŸCHE, FATES WARNING, and DREAM THEATER; extreme prog pioneers VOIVOD and CELTIC FROST; Norway's post-black metal avant garde (ULVER, ARCTURUS, VED BUENS ENDE, BEYOND DAWN, etc.); and of course the huge global movement of Big Three-worshippers in the 1990s and the leaders that emerged (AYREON, SYMPHONY X, etc.). The vastness of what can be considered "progressive metal" has proven to be one of the most viable, malleable forms in all of modern music.

Jeff Wagner has explored progressive metal for nearly 20 years in a variety of fanzines and magazines and is probably most notorious for his stint at Metal Maniacs magazine from 1997 to 2001. Says Wagner of his unhealthy obsession with VOIVOD, FATES WARNING, and other oddballs: "This undertaking, a book on progressive metal, is long overdue. The story will be told through my own warped views, with insights from the musicians that make progressive metal happen, plus input from the specialty labels and crazed fans that keep it alive."

PETER FRIESTEDT - "LA Project"!
12 Aug 2008 - 11:01 by Nikos
Zink Music, Cargo Records and Peter Friestedt presents "LA Project II", an album that features lead vocal performances by Joseph Williams (Toto), Bill Champlin (Chicago), Randy Goodrum, Lou Pardini (Koinonia), Bill Cantos, Michael Ruff and Stefan Gunnarsson. The latter is the voice behind the bonus track "Always On My Mind", a song that only is featured on the Zink Music release of the album. And if the just mentioned isn't enough, mastermind Peter has brought on an impressive list of friends and musicians to play on the album and on here we find Abraham Laboriel, John JR Robinson, Tris Imboden (Chicago), Tommy Denander, Ingemar Åberg and some of the above mentioned singers that also lend their instrumental talents to the album.

The album consists of ten songs and Peter has amongst others co-written with Bill Champlin, Randy Goodrum, Brian Hobbs, Bill Cantos and Lou Pardini. Regarding the song-writing Peter says: "I have written some of my strongest material ever, I have been surrounded by great co-writers and I am very proud of the way the tracks turned out". Peter's extraordinary guitar work shines throughout the record, going from sensitive acoustic guitar and slick rhythm lines to blistering solos.

DISSIMULATION Declare: Give back the dead!
12 Aug 2008 - 10:56 by Nikos
The acclaimed artists of black circus, the one and only in Lithuania, also known as DISSIMULATION, have finished work at its third full-length album, which was traditionally shifted on tape in almost mythological "Phoenix" studio nearby Riga, Latvia, mid April 2008. Lithuanian sepulchral metal titans have spent only eleven sleepless chaotic days over there, together with sound genius Gints Lundbergs, and have managed to squeeze the entire negative [anti]cultural bundle out of themselves, that has been
accumulated since the latest "Prakeikimas" disk, out since late 2005.

Few persons associated to the band, that have already sneaked into these
eight vitriolic psalms of negation, have rushed to name "Atiduokit
Mirusius" as the most impressive set of songs ever written under the
banner of Dissimulation. Admittedly, this proposition is far from the
truth. Maniacal guitar riffs sound dead bitter and scornful, notably
intensified vocals reach the places earlier dared not an inch to thread,
yet nihilistic album is quite bantering as well, first of all due to
laconic focused apostate lyrics. The album is obsessed with the idea of
consumer culture's disdain: mankind has lost all its values, mankind is
sold out as a whore, it leads itself to utter self-destruction. "Atiduokit
Mirusius", that literally translates as "Give back The Dead", is
presumably the most metaphoric album in the entire DISSIMULATION
discography – full of negative symbolism, self-destruction visions, and
mankind's hollow. You are invited to confront the dying world. A malignant confrontation, as mankind is on the threshold of perdition, so... "welcome to the world
circus"!

Extreme music label Ledo Takas Records is going to release "Atiduokit
Mirusius" album this coming autumn in compact disk format. Official
worldwide release date is scheduled for Otober 6th. It will be distributed
by the well familiar retailers in UK, Eire, Germany, Benelux, France,
Italy, Canada, Scandinavia, USA and other countries.

LINE-UP:

Venomous – bass/throat
Nekrofagas – strings
Stabmeldys – pulse

HDK Sign In Season Of Mist!
11 Aug 2008 - 10:33 by Nikos
Season of Mist is happy to let you know that the label just inked a deal with new Dutch project HDK, whose main man is no other than AFTER FOREVER co-founder, main songwriter, guitarist, and grunter Sander Gommans. Needless to say, we're very happy to welcome him to the Season of Mist roster! Here's the man's comment:

"I've been working very hard on my project HDK for several years, so it was very important for me to find a label that is specialised in the more extreme side of metal, but also experienced in the style of AFTER FOREVER. I already worked together with Season of Mist when they released the first AFTER FOREVER albums in France, so I know they will do a good job for HDK as well. My project is a mix of all kinds of metal styles, the label has to be able to give it its full attention in order to promote this the right way, and I feel confident Season of Mist is able to do that perfectly!"

HDK's first album is slated for an early 2009 release.

RAMOS/HUGO - "The Dream"
11 Aug 2008 - 10:28 by Nikos
Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of the debut album from the highly anticipated new Melodic Rock union between Josh RAMOS and HUGO entitled "The Dream" on October 10th 2008.

On the heels of his successful RAMOS debut solo album "Living In The Light", Josh Ramos , former guitar player of THE STORM and TWO FIRES and now shredder for HARDLINE, started looking for a new suitable vocal partner who could offer his songs the right, heavenly and soaring element that could sparkle them to the next level. The opportunity came through when the amazing Hugo, well known solo artist and former singer of OPEN SKYZ and VALENTINE, accepted the invitation to come and work on the vocal melodies and sing on the new songs.

Hugo and Josh therefore teamed up with famed bassist and producer Fabrizio Grossi ( Glenn Hughes , in Los Angeles who hooked them up with keyboardist Eric Ragno (ex Takara) and John Macaluso (Riot, Starbreaker, Malmsteen etc) on drums and they helped laying down all the tracks for the album. The album mix was taken care by Dennis Ward (PC 69) at his studios in Kalrsdorf , Germany .

"It was great to have Hugo singing and writing on this album" says Josh Ramos , "He did a great job, a lot of Journey fans are going to love it and also hear a side to Hugo’s singing that they haven't heard before. Maybe we will be able to perform together at some point!".

"The Dream" is a cracking Melodic Rock album , resembling Journey as primary influence, but also with elements of Two Fires and Valentine’s debut albums. One of the Melodic Rock highlights of the season and definitely and album to look out for.

Final tracklisting includes:

You’re Not Alone; All That I Wanted; The Dream; Fool’s Game; Bring Back This Love; I Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye; When You Get Lonely; In The City; Tomorrow; If I Can Take You.
