Interviewed By Interview By Stelios Basbayiannis
BIG COCK is a new band with well known members. Their singer Robert Mason ex CRY OF LOVE, LYNCH MOB, caught my attention first. Soon enough I found at the same band Dave Henzerling of KING KOBRA,KEEL,LIZZY BORDEN fame involved. At their first work, they play raw ,mean hard rock n roll, soaked in booze, and looking for action. We got the chance to have them beside reviewed as we support this type of scene with all of our heart, also interviewed. Having a name like that on the internet means you are a man who takes your chances and after listening to their album, their definitely are. If you are missing the good old days of the 80s just listen to their album and read the interview, they are going to bring back the sleaze to rock n roll. Here is what their founding member Dave Henzerling, has to say.Enjoy.
Here are few questions for the band MI: First of all how did BIG COCK came as a band, a small cv of the band? Dave Henzerling : I've always wanted to be in a band called BIG COCK - I guess I finally found a group of fellow musicians who were as twisted as me. Actually the name can both hinder and help: help in that people tend to listen to songs from a band called BIG COCK if they've never heard of us, but hinder in that it is difficult to send out emails with "BIG COCK" in the header because so many spam filters will just delete the message (so use Big C0ck instead). ...and don't type BIG COCK into Google - you may be surprised with what you get back... MI: The name isn't the obvious choice, especially at the US should be a problem with its different meanings DH: I believe it is the perfect name. I'm surprised nobody has used the name already. MI: The band still plays a kind of hard rock that is more classic than popular in pour days. Do you feel today's music scene has room for BIG COCK DH: The mainstream is what people make it. The reason you see so much emo, rap, and hip-hop is because, like it or not, that's what most people want, and they've put their money behind it. That's not what we want, so we formed a band called BIG COCK and created an album called "Year of the Cock" (www.bigcockrocks.com - the shameless plug). Trends come and go, but there are always true rock fans - it's just that at times there are more rock fans than at other times. The music buying public ultimately votes with their wallets, so if you want rock-and-fucking-roll, then support it by going to rock shows and buying rock records MI: Your lyrics are a little on the sexy side of the things, how does this come? DH: What's wrong with being sexy? MI: The band is responsible for the production, or someone lese? DH: We did the album ourselves in a big warehouse - all live and with many cases of beer. MI: How difficult is for a band like BIG COCK to find a decent contract to survive. DH: We are in total control of our careers, from the album production to the t-shirt sales. If you control your business, you can survive. MI: You have one of the finest rock voices at the US and some members who know the rock circuit, can the band survive in today's unhealthy, plastic music environment DH: Robert Mason is an amazing rock singer. He also bakes an amazing strawberry torte. MI: Your favorite album song? DH: "Bad Motherfucker", of course! MI: Who is responsible for the lyrics and who is responsible for the music? DH: I write most of the material. Some of the songs came out of other bands I have played in over the years (like "Take it Off" and Mean St. Machine, for instance, which I wrote for KING KOBRA), but it all spews from the same twisted mind. MI: The bands main musical influences? DH: It should be obvious, but you can tell we have listened to and love AC/DC, Van Halen (DLR) and KISS. MI: What is the reaction to the band until now? DH: We have been so honored to have so many new fans. It appears that people have been waiting for BIG COCK for quite some time and we are ready to give it to them. We have met many new friends from all over the world. MI: Will there be any touring to support the album? DH: If they want us, we will play. MI: The packaging is very poor, no lyrics, or band info, can we expect a second release ,under better conditions? DH: We wanted people to listen just to the music. We put no pictures, names or lyrics on the cover on purpose so that the music could stand on its own. Now that people know who we are, we will be doing an amazing package for the second album. MI: How do you see the future for BIG COCK? DH: Huge! MI: Are the band one of the few that caries the LA scene spirit of the 80s.Has sleaze/street metal died after grunge and nu metal for good? DH: No, it is not dead. There are many of us still out there, but we need the rock fans to speak up and tell the industry that they want this type of music back in the mainstream. You do that by supporting your favorite bands with your wallet. MI: How do you feel, there people outside US, so far away, as Greece ,listen to your music and get in to it? DH: It is an honor and a privilege to have so many great fans from all over the world. MI: Do you feel downloading spreads the music or is it a reason for extinction for bands of your size? DH: No. I want people to download our music. If they want to download it, that means they like it. If they like it, they'll want to buy the album anyway. MI: A few words for the people who will read the interview? DH: Folks, listen to BIG COCK and you'll hear the message of Rock loud and clear. Re-live the glory days of rock and roll when it was all about booze and babes. I'm sick of looking at rock bands today that wear their old t-shirts on stage and stare at their shoes while singing songs about how much they hate their lives. Every minute you do that is a minute you didn't spend getting buzzed on brew and sticking your hand down your girlfriend's pants while making out in her daddy's Corvette. That's where you'll find me! MI: Thanks for the answers and I would appreciate some photos, or if I can take them from the site to put them at the interview. I hope we can help you get your music to more people, it deserves it DH: Thanks for your interest and your support. We are happy to be doing what we're doing and you guys make it all worthwhile. | |
