M.I.: Hello Tarvo! Firstly, what do you have to say to those that claim that POISONBLACK is a natural continuation of Sentenced?
Tarmo: Well, of course you can find certain similarities, because Ville is our singer, but there's still four totally different individuals in Poisonblack. I think the chemistry between all five of us creates a sound of it's own which doesn't have anything to do with Sentenced's sound.
M.I.: What is that unique element that POISONBLACK offer to the music scene?
Tarmo: I don't know if there's anything totally unique or original in our music. After all, all music has already been done before. Like I mentioned earlier, it's more about how the chemistry between us bandmembers works what gives us our own sound.
M.I.: Do you believe your music is a valid prospective company in occasional dark hours of your fans?
Tarmo: Sure, why not?! Music has helped me through many hard times and I know that it has had the same impact on all the other members of Poisonblack as well. If our fans find comfort in our music, it's just a good thing in my opinion!
M.I.: On the first Cd J.P. Leppaluoto (Charon) was the vocalist. When he left the band, did you audit other vocalists, or did you decide to take on the vocal duties right away?
Tarmo: When J-P left, we listened a lot of demo tapes and actually find some really potential vocalists for Poisonblack. Back then we were already rehearsing new songs for "Lust Stained Despair" and Ville used to sing in the rehearsals every now and then. When he got used to playing guitar and singing at the same time, it was kind of natural choice that he started to handle vocal duties as well. After all, he's the one who writes the most of the music and all the lyrics, so he knows exactly how our songs are supposed to be sung.
M.I.: You're doing a tour in Europe with Lacuna Coil. Do you believe that, this should be good exposure for your band?
Tarmo: Yes, we did an European tour with Lacuna Coil in the fall 2006. I think we gained a lot of new fans on that tour and response was really great on most of the shows. So yes, I think this tour was a brilliant chance for us!
M.I.: Is there going to be a US tour except the European one?
Tarmo: It's really hard to say at this point. I guess we will do an European tour first and wait and see what kind of feedback the new album will get in US and then make the decision if we will tour there or not.
M.I.: As I know you are preparing your third album! Will it have this well known identity of Poisonblack, or do you plan to make something more aggressive or heavy this time?
Tarmo: I don't think there's gonna be any major surprises, but I think there's much wider spectrum of different kind of songs on the third album. What I mean is that on one hand there's some really aggressive and heavy stuff and on the other hand some really melancholic and melodic songs, too.
M.I.: Do you believe that if you make an intelligent use of Internet, you could use it to your account?
Tarmo: In my opinion internet is a great opportunity for people to find new bands and it's a great channel for many smaller and less-known bands to represent their music for the masses.
M.I.: Which is your opinion about musical distribution through Internet?
Tarmo: I think it's great if music fans have a chance to buy music on line. The negative thing is that many bands are trying to make their albums sound as one entity, not just a collection of songs. Naturally these efforts will suffer if people are just uploading some songs from here and there, not the whole albums.
M.I.: Over the last years is observed a constant competition of the already existed sounds and a general lack of inspiration. What do you think about this?
Tarmo: Well, like I mentioned before I think all music has already been done. Still I feel that the strongest bands will survive and musicians will find different combinations of already existing elements and keep on creating something exciting.
M.I.: As I have noticed your lyrical themes have mainly to do with pain, pleasure, love and lust. What is the reason making you write lyrics like that? These themes are something you like to write about, or is it a personal subconscious decision?
Tarmo: I know that Ville gets the inspiration for his lyrics from real life. Especially on the new album many lyrics are from his own personal life. If you compare lyrics on the new album to lyrics on the previous albums, one of the major differences is that lyrics are not so metaphorical anymore. I think that it's much easier for listener to understand what the lyrics are about on this one, because they are written in a much more "direct" form.
M.I.: Close this interview your way…
Tarmo: I want to say "thank you" to all our fans in Greece for their interest and support! Keep it heavy!
