(Relapse) Total Time: 32:17
I dare you! I dare you to listen to the new PIG DESTROYER album, and if you survive you are the big winner. Take a look at the cover art and notice how that unsuspicious woman looks like: so scared, frightening, terrifying. Dare and see the results for yourself.
I can’t find words to begin this review, I am totally collapsed. “Terrifyer” is a bulldozing experience; it is like a train passing over you without mercy. It is like Pandora’s box from the time you push the “play” button you must run and hide from the “lethal” presents that the DESTROYER offers. But, whatever you do the merciless unstoppable tracking will leave you numb. This is the finest album of the band and I scream from pleasure. I really dig “Prowler in the Yard” but “Terrifyer” is unbelievable. Everything is much better than everything that they ever done before. The production (Scott Hull-guitar) is awesome and the absence of bass (as always) leaves the guitar to handle things alone and it sounds more heavy, brutal, and catchy than ever. The drumming (Brian Harvey) is out of human control and JR Hayes singing (screaming!!!! fits better) resembles that of a mental patient. The very raw sound is the first major element of PIG DESTROYER’s progress. The other is definitely the development in the song writing. Even now, after more than a dozen spins I can’t believe how in one minutes songs you can hear everything spanning thrash, death, hardcore, and grind. All these in one minute? Holy shit! Just listen to “Thumbsucker”, “Carrion Fairy”, “Gravedancer” and you will experience some of the most brutal and vicious riffs of 2004. The surprises continue with the three minutes long “Towering Flesh” and the first guitar solo PIG DESTROYER ever recorded. Fantastic energy, solid power; grindcore in a new level, the HIGHEST. “Terrifyer” delivers 32 minutes of total destruction, full speed furious ugly music and in a very bizarre way.
The surprises don’t stop here, because the cd edition of “Terrifyer” contains an extra DVD-audio disc with a 38 minutes ambient/doom track called “Natasha”. Obviously the most unusual song the band has ever done so far with great results. Very interesting indeed!
My last words: “Terrifyer” is a must have for all of these that want to say that listen to aggressive music. PIG DESTROYER has released a “diamond” of the grindcore genre (and not only). An album that we will be talking about forever!
