MESHUGGAH...”Alive”…Having already seen them twice in my life, I know exactly how energetic band they are upon the stage. Their shows are always so massive and brutal. It’s like crushing with a train! Those Swedish madmen surely know how to garble the reality with their music.
By this first live album during their 20 year history, MESHUGGAH give the chance for someone who never watched them live, to take a small taste of it. Personally, I never liked live albums too much, as they cannot be compared in any way with a live appearance on the stage. Nevertheless, I think that a live album is always important as a document for every band.
Getting straight to what you will find in “Alive”…there are twelve tracks here which have been recorded during the band's 2008-2009 tour dates of Canada and Japan. Tracks 1-4 recorded in Tokyo, tracks 5-7 recorded in Toronto and tracks 8-12 recorded live in Montreal. The selection of tracks has been made in order to promote “ObZen”, so five songs are taken from this album. It’s not a best-of collection guys.
Musically talking, this live album represents how MESHUGGAH collapse the stage and set fire to the crowd. Devastating rhythms created by heavy bass/guitars and stunning drumming, combined with the pissed off vocals, highlight the characteristic intransigence MESHUGGAH have for any contractual forms. It’s a 1000 megatons’ power techno-chaotic bomb, thrown on you! A Rational paranoia! Totally enjoyable!
For those who don’t have any problems paying some more money to buy a DVD instead of a simple CD, I advise you to grab their “Alive” DVD in order to have a complete contact with their live footage.
