Each time I hear the name ABIGOR, three words come quickly in my mind. Satanism, middle ages & paganism, the 3 magic ingredients in this band’s dark kingdom. From one of their first demo releases in 1993 until the supreme album “Opus IV” in 1996, ABIGOR managed to create something completely impressive for those years in Austria. The only bad thing is that after the mid 90’s their ideas were completely worn off and from there and beyond they didn’t have any success in their latest releases. But in 2010 this thing changed a lot since a new album comes out to make them gain their reputation again!
To be honest, when I first got the new album in my hands, I felt a little weird as their previous one sucked a lot and I didn’t listen to it even one time fully. But this one here is very special. It contains only two tracks, almost 20 minutes the duration of each one but their quality and ideas in playing reminded me the good old times of the band. Aesthetics of darkness and chaos, machine gun-like drum blast beats & Arthur Rosar’s haunting vocals along with some of the most depressive and mind drilling riffs and melodies I’ve heard in years, this album after many hearings manages with just two brilliant songs to stay in the back of your mind!!! There are even more avant-garde elements here that together with their classic Black Metal style make killer combinations, for something qualitative and hypnotic like an evening soundtrack to finish your night off.
To sum up, the old-school fans of ABIGOR since “Opus IV” should definitely look after this release, if they want to listen something new by this majestic band. This was one classic moment I told myself again, “Don’t judge something you haven’t listened yet...” and this goes 100% here!!!
