ANCHESTRAL RHYMES were formed in 2007, in Trikala Greece and this is the first effort of the melodic/black metal (?)/ambient project, entitled “The Cosmic Law”, self produced at the band’s home studio in 2008.
This EP consists of 6 tracks full of keyboards, rhythmic guitars, male growling vocals and recitations. The main part is played by the “synths”, leaving for all the other instruments the second role; instruments that I can’t be sure which are “natural” ones and which are “canned”. The synthesis, despite the band’s ambitious try to impress the listener, is quite poor and aimless. The ancient like musical themes don’t seem to equalize themselves with the real mythological superbness of the ancient Greece, nay in quality nor in style as well! The lyrical themes negotiate theogony and hymns to the elements of nature. The production is really poor and inefficient and the drum machine is at least impossible to bear with, even for a self released project…
Because ancient Greece is my ideal “pill” I expect so much more from Greek young musicians and demand their full respect and full service to this unreachable power...in simple words: If you can’t, then just DON’T!
