Demos : Fingers Crossed - Hopscotch

(self financed) Total Time: 40:27

Fingers Crossed is a pop-rock band from Athens that play indie rock with a pinch of a punk attitude. In fact, and if your ears can bear other music apart from metal, they are the next band you should check out! This is no exaggeration; these guys have talent, character and fresh ideas. Moreover, their album is freely available for download from their website, which makes things a lot easier for the fans.
In the 11 tracks included in “Hopscotch” the band presents a music style which perhaps is best described as modern rock 'n' roll. The ingredients may be traced back to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Franz Ferdinand and other rock bands of the 00's (and earlier). At the same time, the many influences are kept at a safe distance, thus not compromising originality. Fingers Crossed produce their own take on pop-rock music, which is pleasantly diverse, fresh and rocking. “Hopscotch” won't bore you with repetition, either external (“I heard this before”) or internal (“all songs sound the same”). On top of that, the excellent production, conducted in the Sca studios in Athens (e.g. Echo Tattoo), ensures that the music sounds as clear and solid as it should (to the point that one starts wondering what distinguishes a demo album from a 'proper' one).
All in all, “Hopscotch” is a fresh album of high quality that would have made it to your local music store hadn't Fingers Crossed chosen differently. According to a statement accompanying their promo, they self-released their work as they couldn't see any use in going through the record label system. Well, that is all fine, even more so since it gives them the choice to distribute their album for free. However, the truth is that the record label system is still dominant in the music scene, and without professional promotion a young band like Fingers Crossed is probably doomed to oblivion. And that is really a shame as their music is damn good.
