If I told you that a band called “Revolting Cocks” play Christian Metal you wouldn't believe me, would you? Well, probably neither would you believe me if I told you that RevCo (the band's nickname) are the alter ego of Al Jourgensen, Ministry's mastermind, and play industrial disco rock – but it's true. Apparently, Jourgensen is that sort of musical genius who can (co-)invent industrial thrash metal on one day and move to this kind of stuff on the next. The guy is amazing.
RevCo is quite an old band: they formed back in the mid 80's, disbanded in the early 90's, and revived in 2004 producing three full albums since then. Their last accomplishment, Sex-O Olympic-O, finds the band with a 3/4 fresh line-up, the new players being Josh Bradford, Clayton Worbeck and Sin Quirin. In Jourgensen's words: “I'm starting the process of turning RevCo over to a younger generation - much like Menudo does or Blue Man Group. I'm kind of franchising it out. [...]”. Fresh blood brings freshness and frankly the album sounds like a continuous dance party with industrial (sometimes quite heavy) guitars, and it simply makes you dance along!
The music in the album ranges from pure disco to quite heavy stuff that touch the borderlines of Ministry. Lyrics are a take-it-or-leave-it case as they orbit mostly and only around sex. As our entire modern society orbits around sex, I would find criticism against RevCo's lyrics a bit hypocritical – one could go a bit further and claim that they want to make a point by exposing the fact. In any case, I urge you not to let yourselves be deceived by the funny name and the funny title: Sex-O Olympic-O is silly and it is quite seriously good at the same time!
