Heck uncle-Alice is back to his old tricks… he;s back with his like …phew 25th album or something …
Which is a dark and sinister concept about a serial killer called Spider …?!
How appropriate and AC like is that ?!
The album is really bizarre as it sort of really continues in a modern direction, but at the same time is rather stripped down and reminiscent of his classic style and mannerisms.
Apart from the usual suspects - there are a few guests on the album - including Splash and some long time Rolling Stones and OZzy associate and a renowned backing singer I have not heard of before, who’s name I m forgetting anyway, as I only got a CDr of this…
It’s a crazy little story about a serial killer named Spider who likes to kill his victims by wrapping them in silk, and feed on them – his hunger growing for a new kill, after each kill. Problem is – he falls in love with one of his victims and feels unable to complete the kill - which leads him to his undoing….
The album is dark quasi industrialist hard rock with hooks, featuring a lot of future Alice live favorites like “Vengeance is Mine”, “I Know Where You Live”, “Catch me if you can” as well as classic balladry, in the form of "Killed by Love" and "Salvation" future classics as well, no doubt.
It’s surprising - how Spider, sorry Alice manages hit after hit, and record after record for so long, without loosing his style or form … truly marvelous… the darkness and faux-horror and the haunting atmosphere stays with you even for a long time after the album is through ……
Indeed this sounds like a soundtrack to a horror movie that has not been made yet as someone claimed somewhere… and I would definitely like to see that movie - based on what I ‘ve heard….
