Soulfly - Conquer

(Roadrunner) Total Time 57:21

“Conquer” is the sixth strike of SOULFLY, the third album in a row with a steady line up. The recording session started almost a year ago, the band entered Porch Studio owned by Bobby Burns and Tim Lau in Orlando, Florida and in the halfway Max Cavalera went through Egypt to record various sounds to be used as he did in the past with other countries. The album was mixed by Andy Sneap and there are some guest appearances, less than in previous releases, by Morbid Angel frontman David Vincent and Throwdown singer Dave Peters. The limited edition of the album will have "My Path" and Bad Brains cover "Sailin' On" that have never been released before. It will also include the cover of Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" that was originally released in June 2007 by Kerrang! magazine and a DVD with a whole concert in Warsaw, Poland.

Max stated about “Conquer” that it was going to make “Dark Ages” sound like a pop album and given that the latter was characterized as a return to the thrash roots, the former should be damn heavy. Well, this release is not just heavy, it is also dark as hell and at times so fast you think the original Sepultura are back. The band is in deadly form and unites all of their fans with this album. There are riffs that move to the borderline of death metal like the good old days, almost hardcore beatings, extreme thrash speeds and many implements of weird sounds that have nothing to do with metal (“Doom” ends in a reggae jam with eastern tunes and of course there is “Soulfly VI” in the same mood as its predecessors). You know Max, he has the gift to blend all the extreme genres together (he invented some of them anyway) plus ethnic and earth music and still be as metal as the Eiffel Tower. SOULFY have such a groove in their playing that you just can’t hold yourself back. So if you want to jump around for the rest of the summer go on and listen to “Conquer”. Songs like “Unleash”, “Warmageddon” and “Fall Of Sycophants” (what a cult title!) guarantee moshpit massacres.

Max seems restless and besides his work with his brother in Cavalera Conspiracy he gave birth to another diamond for the extreme. “Conquer” is a statement of anger, fury and metal frenzy. This is SOULFY at its best: “Blood, Fire, War, Hate and everybody is going insane!!!”.
