First of all, I would like to make a big announcement (which has been my little secret all these years): I never really liked NEVERMORE! I am lucky enough, though, to have the “Politics of Ecstasy“ album, which I think is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, but besides this particular release, I always felt very strange with their other albums and always felt that their music was very distinctive (which is a good thing), but did not really appeal to my ears most of the times.
For me, Warrel Dane will go down in history as the singer of the legendary SANCTUARY - all praise to this band! For the new generation of fans I cannot recommend enough to check out SANCTUARY, because they were an amazing band in the late 80’s in their own right and for the short life span they had.
Anyway, this new release by musical mastermind Warrel Dane, proves on the one hand his unique vocal talents (such a theatrical character and strong vocal tone, it really amazes me) and on the other hand the musical ingenuity (that we have been accustomed all these years) of Mr. Dane. Completing the album, Mr. Dane included two cover songs, namely “Lucretia My Reflection” the classic SISTERS OF MERCY song and “Patterns” by SIMON AND GARTFUNKEL - which sounds pretty amazing.
Overall, an amazing offering by Mr. Dane and this comment coming from a guy who up until now didn’t really support or listened to NEVERMORE - hey, we all have our faults. Nonetheless, it is never too late to discover another heavy metal legend…
