The Canadian Death Metallers KATAKLYSM have created their ninth full-length release, under the name “Prevail” which contains 10 tracks.
“Prevail” is a Death metal album with lots of heavy riffs, groovy rhythms and double bass. You can also find some melodic lead guitar riffs, mostly used in some mid tempo songs as well as some solos. The album in general is based in aggressive and strong music, with the vocals and the sound production to play a huge part on that. “Catchy songs” is a term that can describe Kataklysm’s music, and here you can find some, with many of them consisting of metalcore elements. That clearly came up because of Jason Suecof (Chimaira, Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder), who has mixed the album.
Unfortunately, after listening to this album for more than 7 times I may say that I’m quite disappointed and there are few songs that I liked, like “The Vultures Are Watching” and “Blood In Heaven”. The whole outcome seems to be a little pointless, without having much to give to the listener. I believe the followers of the band will like it but I don’t think that someone should get this album if he/she wants to explore KATAKLYSM’s music.
