Two years after the release of their debut mini-cd “Violent Instincts” RELEASE ANGER now release their first full length album “Faces Of Fate”. There have been some changes in their line up, which are as following: Kostas Pavlidis (ex-Crucifier) is on the bass and Stelios Stavropoulos (ex-Breakout) behind the drum kit.
If you had the first meeting with the band by listening to their debut record, well you’ll be pleased to know that this album is in the same style as it’s predecessor. Old school thrash which emphasizes to the German school with fast riffing and well composed songs. Ntinos Zachari’s voice reminds Mille Petrozza in the old good days of Kreator and although the production is not as dirty as I would like it to be, is very good. Yet in this record they seem to have make progress in the sector of composing the songs and sound more mature. Lyrically they continue to deal with serious topics of everyday life like drugs, war, mental health etc.
Some of those who kept contact with the underground thrash scene in Greece in the past might recognize three songs which were included to the “Escape or Die’ demo of Crucifier. This demo was released in the period that Dimitris Harisis was a member of the band and since the songs were his own creations now are part of “Faces OF Fate”. To my humble opinion, these songs are the best of this album.
There are many who would say that RELEASED ANGER have nothing to offer and that they are just another band which copies 80s thrash. Don’t listen to them, RELEASED ANGER as well as other groups do not play for the money do not care about trends. Faces Of Fate is a very mature thrash album and that the fact that is created without the help of any record label makes it even greater.
