ROOT have been around for 20 years now and although I have heard very little about them, I must confess that I enjoyed listening to their newest offering “Daemon Viam Invenient”. Certainly, they have matured in sound and style, as they are much less Black-metallish nowadays, but nonetheless they have kept their quality standards to the absolute maximum.
Worth mentioning are, once again, BigBoss’s vocals that sound nothing like you ever heard before and the excellent work by guitar duo Poison and Ashok, that really provides a trademark sound in all the songs, especially in the area of soloing. Up to standard and more than adequate is the drum work by Mr. Evil, while the bass, surprise-surprise, is not buried in the mix, but rather outshines.
Overall, this is a quality album and for many, ROOT have been a phenomenon for the past 20 years and quite honestly I now understand why. Take my advice and check them out, you will be surprised, really surprised by these crazy Czechs!
