Another Italian band that we will be featuring this month is ASHENT. This is their debut album, which was released in early 2006, but has just come in our attention. The music is pure Power/Progressive goodness and the band definitely has the musical and compositional skills to perform well in this area.
Even though, they can’t escape the trap of being completely original (90% of the bands nowadays can’t either), their songs and structures are so nicely laid down that it is truly a joy to listen to this album. From a technical point of view, there is not much to note, as they certainly present a high level of skillful playing.
Concluding, this is another interesting album from Italy, which surprisingly seems to be exporting more and more bands than ever. I certainly think that ASHENT are one of those bands that need and deserve your support, but I am ultimately afraid that they will not have such a lasting appeal as other bands down the road…
