Malicious Death - War And Power

(Verikauha Records) Total Time: 37:32

This is the first full-lenght album of this Finnish band (they have also recorded an LP entitled “Devilization” somewhere in 2003 and have participated in two compilations). From their second album already they make it clear and as it seems feel pretty sure about the music genre they’d like to serve. I mean that “War And Power” can generally be characterised as a raw, old fashioned Thrash album, without having the faintest need to be more original or experimental. Literally speaking, it is difficult to believe that this album was recorded in 2005 and not back in 1984, as it’s a fact that all of its elements (from sound production and lyrics issues to musical structure) send you back to the early legendary period of American Thrash Metal. These guys don’t seem to have any complex about that; and why should they? On the contrary, they seem to enjoy it very much and I think that they do the right thing. Instead of trying to prove that they are capable of changing the music history by injecting into the songs 1000 million experimental shit they decided to do what they were born to do; form a pure, old school Thrash Metal band and of course that’s a basic reason why this album is characterised by great quality.

Even though it is more than certain that each second of this album will strongly bring you to mind bands like Slayer, Sepultura, Dark Angel and Sodom, my advice is that you should not stand critically against it. Just relax, bue a couple of beers and enjoy it. Especially if you are an irremediably nostalgic fan of the genre this record might haunt your cd-player for weeks.
