Amazing!! BEEHOOVER is a band consisting of only a bassist and a drummer. With the exception of only two songs, you will hear no guitars in this cd! Just drums and bass filling the gaps left by the absence of almost any other instrument. Sounds very bizarre and maybe boring, I’m sure, but you will find out that it’s quite interesting.
Let’s take first thing first. BEEHOOVER consists of Claus-Peter Hamisch (drums) and Ingmar Petersen (bass, acoustic guitars, vocals), both also active as the rhythm section in German traditional doom band Voodooshock. These two musicians have three self-released EP’s so far under the BEEHOOVER name and this is the band’s first full-length.
From the beginning to the end of this cd these guys prove what can a gifted musician do if he sets no limits to his imagination. Believe me, all ten tracks included here are complete, well-structured songs that will keep your interest in high levels. Petersen’s playing manages to make the absence of guitar parts unnoticeable as his bass is used as a rhythmic guitar as well. The band’s music is a mix of krautrock, heavy psychedelia and avantgarde doom full of great melodies and all songs include great riffs and some cases amazing bass solos, without any of them being boring. Listen to “Paraffin Oiler”, “Nice Romantic Evening” with its acoustic guitar parts and its haunting violin melody, the psychedelic 12 minute-long “The Sun Behind The Dustbin” and “The Hospice Inn”, which brings to mind the great debut of Abdullah, and you will be amazed of the high quality levels of artistic creation these guys reach.
All you have to do is to approach with open-mind ness and you will be rewarded.
