(Carnal) Total Time: 52:57
A decade ago I had the luck of doing one of the first interviews that were given at that time with the masked, cloven hoof Shamataae of ARCKANUM, who then took his first steps with the cult Necropolis Records. The interview was being done through mail and the artist's answers had made quite an impression. I cannot know if he stills shares the same beliefs (like "the wind is my inspiration", "I talk to trees and the other creatures of nature", "the woods are my permanent residence and I deny civilization" and similar statements that, if not anything else, they declare the eccentric side of a charismatic musician), the thing I definitely know is that his lonely course hasn't deviate, even today, as far as his extremist, anti-conventional, disturbing (for many listeners), pagan-like black metal is concerned. His characteristic vocals-screams automatically declare the identity of ARCKANUM, the harrowing tone of which render Shamataae one of the kind (the inarticulate groans of the early MAYHEM pale compared to him). It takes only one listening of his repeated war roars (often under the guidance of a double or triple echo) for you to remember him always. We must not forget to refer to the use of a special archaic dialect for the verse of each album that complicates even more the situation which is already overdone (of course, if we consider the way Shamataae expresses the verses-incantations, using any language, you wouldn't be able to understand him still).
In the year of 2006 ARCKANUM belong to the newly established Carnal and they bring to life the forgotten demo "Trulen" (which means "Evil demons"), while the one man band is at the process of producing new songs (hijinks!)
Here, due to the amateur production the situation becomes rougher. The black, barbaric and primitive metal along with abundant sounds of nature (think of owls, thunder, gusts of wind, etc.) creates the necessary base on which the masked mastermind of ARCKANUM spits his cursed verses.
Talk is cheap, in the face of ARCKANUM the whole nature meets its ideal voice for all the trials that it suffers from the human race.
Charmed, as always.
