Soulfly - Dark Ages [featured album]

(Roadrunner) Total Time: 66:22

With rumors of a SEPULTURA reunion once again making the rounds, fueled even more from a delay in the latter's follow up album, the fans of the band, might or might not find some solace in the fifth album by Max Cavalera's SOULFLY. Virtually identical stylistically, with the previous efforts, but this time leaning a bit more on metal, it has the predictable couple of really good moshing songs, like "Babylon" and "Carved inside", some pretty frantic thrash cyclones in the shape of "Frontlines" and "Fueling the hate" and then quite a few more songs (there are 15 cuts - 2 of them really short though) that are quite nice - without really making you loose it - bu they 're nice rhythmical, groovy little numbers - so that's not all that bad. "Arise Again" is a really bizarre instrumental...it's good - but is it a nod for things to follow ? eh ? who knows......Oh yeah and there's a fifth part of soulfly - a ten minute jam, with sounds of pouring rain - really mellow. It would be nice to try and put them all together see how they flow. lol. Basically - imagine Chaos AD, with a bit of mid era up to renewal KREATOR, thrown in, and obviously the bands own sound and mannerisms.
If you like the final few SEPULTURA albums with Max, and if you like SOULFLY, you'll really like this album. nothing groundbreaking - nothing earth shattering, but I 'd groove to it in a club.
