Circulus – A Lick On The Tip Of An Envelope Yet To Be Sent

(Rise Above) Total Time: 39:12

What the hell? What was that? I had never heard of CIRCULUS before, nor was I prepared for what I was to hear. Okay, first things first: CIRCULUS have nothing to do with Heavy Metal and this album with the peculiar title “A Lick On The Tip Of An Envelope Yet To Be Sent” constitutes their debut release. Trying to describe their music I would call it medieval progressive folk with psychedelic elements and influences from ELOY, JETHRO TULL and ELP. The seven-piece comes from London and the lyrics of the songs very fittingly to the music refer to British history, British folk legends, or fantastic stories.

Folk is certainly not my cup of tea (let alone progressive medieval folk), and my knowledge on the genre is superficial. Accordingly, I don’t feel I can seriously review this beyond a simple presentation, nor rate it as the outcome would be unfair. All I can say is that if you are into folk and prog and you liked the description of CIRCULUS musical style, then make sure you check them out; you may find this album interesting, I didn’t.
