Kaipa - Mindrevolutions

(Inside out)
Total Time: 79:11

Kaipa, if I m not mistaken, are a rather old outfit that got back into action not so long ago. I must have reviewed the predecessor of this one, quite sometime ago. Well this is an album full of bizarre, proggy, poppy, jazzy proportions, some complex and too far up it’s own arse – LOL – concept – don’t ask me about what – something or other. It would help if people did send the complete products, especially in the case of seemingly concept albums. Anyhow one might quickly recognize the Stolt dude from the flower kings, he’s playing some great guitar on songs like "The dodger", the self-titled one, "Remains of the day"and "Shadows of time". I think the bassist is also a king, but cannot be bothered to double check that, right now. They do enlist the assistance of ex- Frank Zappa drummer Morgan Ågren, whose playing lends even more credibility to this album. The instrumental parts are great moody parts, intertwining perfectly with the dream-like vocal parts, but somehow, the voices could be even more reverbed and dream-like, as far as I am concerned. Especially Aleena sounds like a childish mix between Andrea Corr, but with the intonation of an Alanis Morissete. A combination that takes a bit of using to. She also sounds like some UK prog chick too, that I cannot remember o the top of my head. But just not as good. "Our deepest inner shore", "Timebomb", "Mindrevolutions" and a few more are pretty good tracks. For fans of this band and the flower kings, it's surely worth having, for the title track alone, for anybody else, proceed with caution.
