Here we have a solo outing, by the low profile Symphony X keyboard player Michael Pinnella. Well, being a properly trained musician and having studied c0omposition and all, really shows. The entire album is based around Mr. Pinella’s keyboards and piano. Among the 13 songs that can be found here, some are classically inspired and some inspired by rock keyboardists, with the classical element most prominent in the amazing 3 movement, Piano Concerto, which is the centerpiece of the album (even with some tiny nods to Symphony X at the beginning of the second movement). “The White Room”, “Edge Of Insanity”, “Welcome To My Daydream”, “Live For The Day” and the title track are the Prog rock ones along with the wee “Moracan Lullaby”, and they re indeed interesting. Cross the bridge is an exercise in overindulgence, that never tires you and there’s even a classic reinterpreted here in the form of Rachmaninov’s contemporary Alexander Scriabin’s etude op.42 no 5. This is not metal kidds, but if you play the keyboards, it might be an interesting proposition. I don’t feel that I can judge this as I m not properly qualified. But musically it’s lawless. I would have just preferred a slightly different sound on the keyboards myself, but that’s just a matter of personal taste and opinion.
