Gary John Barden - Past And Future

(Escape)

He made his leaving, singing with Michael Schenker Group for the biggest part of the 80s. Then they decided to be more commercial, so he formed STATETROOPER and found small success. Today he returns with an album, which I first was hesitant about. A re-serving of his old songs from the MSG days, was it a joke, a farce, a fast buck? After finishing the album I must say, this is one of the best interpretation from an artist to his own history. More laid back, mostly semi acoustic, he gives to the songs a classic rock feeling, when he doesn’t flirt with other musical styles like Latin music, with the excellent use of the classical guitar. A brave step towards, the future, he gave old standards like “On and on”, ”Looking for love”, ”Armed and ready” a different twist and a certain degree of interest that I was unaware they could have. I am a big fan of Michael Schenker, but I wish he could produce such an album these years, instead of his retro journeys with guys like Pattison. A big Hip Hooray for Gary, he is armed and ready to rock.
