Darkane - Layers of Lies

(Nuclear Blast)
Total Time: 42:50

DARKANE return on century media with “Layers of Lies”, their fourth album. To be fair, I have to admit that this is my first experience with the band, but I do like what I’m listening to.

After an operatic intro, which had me thinking that this will be a melodic black metal release, DARKANE surprised me with a very melodic and powerful continuation. Very uptempo, with lots of headbanging-inducing elements, DARKANE present a release that features influences from MESHUGGAH, SLAYER, SOILWORK, DARK TRANQUILLITY, and other similar bands. Screaming vocals, bursting into multiple layers of melody for the choruses, crushing riffs and killer drumming, gives us a relentless attack, which rarely pauses. The lead guitar almost always complements the music by giving melody to the rhythm. The quality of most songs is very high and there are very few fillers here. To top it off, the production is excellent.

Overall, this is a very good release, that should please headbangers everywhere.
