ADAGIO plays bombastic neoclassical symphonic metal with heavy prog leanings, with vocals comparable with that of Russell Allen of Symphony X. Their music mixes romantic classical interludes with a subtle hint of baroque. Choirs enhance the classical effect and lend an air of majesty in a way not to dissimilar to Carl Orff. The music is generally extremely melodic and accessible. There a lot of flashy guitar work here in the vein of Yngwie Malmsteen and Marty Friedman as well as a lot of keyboard/piano wizardry and a lot of violins. The orchestrations are luscious and rich and there are influences of some current soundtrack composers giving the record a more cinematic feel. A really over the top produced record with a lot going on in it. Pianos – guitars- melodic vocals – church organs – howls – screams – classical music interludes – you name it. A really interesting record that will appeal to all the neo classical loving fans, but is accessible enough for everyone I think.
